After the Anschluss in 1938, the Germans seized the vehicles and used them extensively for police operations and by SS units on the Eastern Front and in the Balkans. A distinctive feature of the vehicle was its double driver's cab, allowing driving in both directions without the need for turning around. In 1942, an additional 25 vehicles were ordered specifically for the SS, which took part in, among other operations, anti-partisan actions in Yugoslavia and the USSR.
