TB-1 – Soviet Heavy Bomber

The TB-1 (ANT-4) was the world’s first all-metal, twin-engine heavy bomber, developed in the 1920s by Andrei Tupolev’s design bureau. It was produced in the Soviet Union from 1929 to 1932. The TB-1 was used mainly by the Soviet air force during the interwar period and the early stage of World War II. It served for both bombing and transport missions, playing a key role in developing air strategy in the USSR.

The KP-1, on the other hand, was an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone, catapult-launched from the bomber) tested on the TB-1 – this innovative concept from the 1930s is an interesting episode in aviation history, showcasing the bold experiments of that era’s engineers with unmanned air combat systems.
