Historical information

The seaplane carrier Mizuho was built for the Imperial Japanese Navy and entered service in 1939, just before the outbreak of World War II. This vessel, serving mainly between 1939 and 1942, took part in operations in the Far East and the Pacific Ocean, acting both as a tender for seaplanes and as a transporter for submarines. It became renowned during World War II, especially while supporting Japan’s offensive operations in the early months of the war. It was sunk by the American submarine USS Drum in May 1942.

  • The model reflects the details of the original vessel, such as the seaplane launch deck and richly reproduced superstructure elements.
  • The 1/700 scale version allows you to build a collection of Japanese ships from this period.
  • The sprues are made from precisely cast, durable plastic components.
  • The model does not include photo-etched parts or metal extras, making it ideal for both intermediate and advanced modelers.

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
