The Panzerjäger Elefant, also known as Ferdinand, was developed in response to the need for a powerful self-propelled gun capable of countering Soviet tanks on the Eastern Front. Based on the chassis of the failed Tiger (P) tank project, it was armed with an 8.8 cm Pak 43/2 L/71 gun. It featured exceptionally thick armor, making it very difficult to destroy by Allied forces. Deployed since 1943, it was prominently seen in the Battle of Kursk. Its greatest strengths were firepower and protection, but it lacked mobility and effective infantry defense. These vehicles fought until the end of the war, mainly on the Eastern and Italian Fronts.
