Historical description and use

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.22 is the last developmental version of the Spitfire, which entered service after the end of World War II, during the post-war period (1946–1955). The model represented a significant technological breakthrough – it was equipped with a more powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, the classic elliptical wing was modified for better performance, and a new type of propeller and undercarriage was used. The Mk.22 served in the Royal Air Force mainly as a fighter and reconnaissance aircraft in the era when the first jet planes began to appear. It was used for training, territorial patrols, and exercises in the United Kingdom and the Middle East, among other locations.
