Historical description of HMS Cornwall – County Class

HMS Cornwall was one of the first County-class heavy cruisers built for the Royal Navy in 1926-1928 as a response to the constraints of the Washington Naval Treaty. The ship took an active part in operations in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. In April 1942, during the Battle of Ceylon, HMS Cornwall was sunk along with its sister ship HMS Dorsetshire by Japanese carrier-based aircraft – this event turned out to be one of the key moments in the naval battles in this region.

Who do we recommend the Aoshima HMS Cornwall model for?

We especially recommend this model to enthusiasts of British naval history and ship modeling who appreciate high-quality details and want to build an accurate replica of a vessel from the pivotal period of World War II. The kit will help develop skills in detail painting, working with small parts, and as an additional challenge, creating realistic rigging and decorating the decks.

Difficulty level: 3/5

Medium difficulty – perfect for modelers with basic experience in assembling 1/700 scale ships.

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
