A-Model NA 72003 Soviet atom bomb RDS-3 1/72

A-Model NA 72003 Soviet atom bomb RDS-3 1/72 is a precise plastic model kit representing the Soviet RDS-3 atomic bomb in 1/72 scale. This unique set allows you to create an accurate replica of one of the most important strategic weapons of the Cold War era, which was a milestone in the arms race of the 20th century. The model does not include glue or paints, allowing for the individual selection of finishing materials according to the modeller's preferences.

The RDS-3, also known as “Marya”, was the third Soviet atomic bomb, developed and built in 1951, right after the famous RDS-1 and RDS-2 models. It was equipped with a composite plutonium core surrounded by a uranium shell, giving it an exceptional explosive force of up to 41.2 kilotons. The RDS-3T version was the first serially produced atomic weapon in the USSR, and in 1953 this type officially entered service with the Soviet Long Range Aviation.

A historic moment for the RDS-3 was its drop and test explosion on October 18, 1951—this was the first air-dropped atomic bomb test in Soviet history. The event, known in the West as “Joe-3”, took place at an altitude of 400 meters and demonstrated to the world the USSR's readiness for mass production of nuclear weapons.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
