Historical Description and Use

The StuG III Ausf. G and StuH 42 are German self-propelled guns that played a significant role during World War II. The StuG III (Sturmgeschütz III) was the primary German assault gun used from 1940–1945 by the Wehrmacht on all fronts. The Ausf. G version was the most widely produced, featuring improved crew protection including so-called “skirts” (Schürzen), a new type of commander’s cupola, and additional armor modifications. The StuH 42 (Sturmhaubitze 42), on the other hand, was developed in response to the need to support infantry with a 105 mm caliber weapon ideal for destroying fortifications. Both vehicles served mainly on the Eastern Front, Western Front, and in Italy until the end of the war.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
